If you want to check your jewelry and if you have any plans of selling it then it is best to check if your jewelry is gold and to know the karat of your jewelry. This way you’ll be able to know if your jewelry has any value and how much it cost.
To do this, you could use an electric gold tester. This gadget is very handy and easy to use and it can help you determine the worth of your jewelry.
- Connect all of the cords properly. Whether you are using your electronic gold tester for the first time or for the many time, it is important that you connect all of its cords and gel tube properly. Without its cords or gel tube, the electronic gold tester will not work properly. Check the tip if it is clean and if it has gel before using it.
- Put your jewelry or object in the clip. The purpose of the alligator clip in the backboard of the tester is for clipping your jewelry in place. Carefully set the jewelry in place before clipping it softly to avoid damaging or breaking your jewelry. If your jewelry has pearls, never place it in contact of the testing pen if you want to get an accurate reading.
- Switch on your tester. When you have set your jewelry in place, switch the tester on. Allow it to have a few seconds for it to register and when it is set, touch the tip of your tester on the jewelry. Avoid getting the clip in touch with the testing pen to get more accurate results.
- Push the test button. Once the testing pen is on contact with the metal part of your jewelry, push the test button. Give it 3-4 seconds to have a complete reading. Once it is done with its reading, you will see a reading that ranges from a minus to 1100 and you will also see a graph on the tester indicating the karat for the reading.
- Compare the reading to the graph. Check the graph to find out how many karats your gold is. The graph has a certain range equivalent to a karat and all you’ll need to do is find the reading from the tester in the graph to find out its equivalent in karat.
- Repeat the process to double check. If you want to make sure that you have the correct karat or if the reading comes out below 400 then you can try again. Clean the tip and check if it has gel on the tip to avoid getting a false reading. This may happen if your tester was not given enough time to register, have residues, oils or other metals in the testing area.
